Re: One for Tony or Stuart
Hi Ernie I have a bit of info to add to your statement - "Abbey brook ref. number 7645 Ex RE73 (Ron Evans?). The other has Abbeybrook number 7502 Herbertsdale form, Ex. Selectra nursery South Africa 6/1998." AB acquired both the plants from which yours were propagated as part of the large ...

Re: Selenicereus (Epiphyllum) chrysocardium
At the recent Cactus Explorers meeting at Leicester, Nigel Taylor gave a talk about growing cacti at his home in Brazil. He showed pics of his chrysocardium with a flower and said he believed that this species produces flowers from stems that hang down as the hormonal balance in them is different to...

Re: Moving home / greenhouse

The pic here shows a fine plant https://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Morangaya
It emphasises your comment Tom - it looks quite like an Aporocactus relative.

Re: Change of scenery
Many of my plants are in trays and I water from below by pouring water into the trays. I use the same paper towel/jay cloth method as Chris to remove excess water and it has got me out of trouble a number of times when the weather has suddenly turned cool and sun less - or when I just put too much w...

Re: Change of scenery
Yes, I suppose the extra UV light outside helps - I'm getting proper amethyst colouring on my Graptopetalum amethystinum outside. Ian, I suggest you check the containers your plants are standing in to see if rain water is being gathered in them. It doesn't take long for roots to rot if they are sitt...

Re: A few Hildewinteria flowers
Many thanks Ed!
I think those astonishing flowers have a good case to be regarded as the best looking of all the cacti. I hope these hybrids become widely available.
