International Asclepiad Society Journals

The IAS website is still live and it appears they have back issues available but I was hesitant to order in case there isn't anyone supporting the shop.

Alternatively if anyone has issues 23-61 and 116-124 for sale I would be interested in purchasing.

Thanks, James

Ceropegia dimorpha from pollination to seed harvesting

It’s been a long wait, about 9 months from pollination to the follicles ripening. I can’t quite believe I have Ceropegia dimorpha seed in front of me, and sustainably produced in the UK! I hope you enjoy the pictures tracking the progress. Unfortunately they haven’t uploaded in the right order.

Ceropegia simoneae seed follicles

Following on form my post showing the dimorpha seed follicles here are some C. simoneae ones. There are three different clones with two sets of seed follicles each, the largest are 19cm tip to tip, shorter than the dimorpha ones but much thicker. Hopefully they will reach maturity soon.

Re: Ceropegia dimorpha seed follicles

One more question: did you transfer just one pollinium per flower or fill all the slots? In case any is interested, the article about pollination of Ceropegia juncea : https://www.researchgate.net/publication/264845044_Pollination_System_and_ex_Situ_Fruit_Set_in_Ceropegia_juncea_Wight_Apocynaceae-a...

Re: Ceropegia dimorpha seed follicles

Wow that is impressive - well done. I have never known anyone to pollinate this plant in cultivation. I remember finding it in flower in Madagascar and how excited I was - Its a great plant to grow. Thanks Ian, it took a lot of time, effort, and money to get to this point but I think its been worth...

Re: Ceropegia dimorpha seed follicles

I am unsure about who the speaker was but somewhere around 10 years ago, someone gave a talk and slide show at the Leicester branch which included Asclepiad pollination. I asked about how he managed to pollinate such complicated flowers to which he said that he simply removed as much of the flower ...

Re: Ceropegia dimorpha seed follicles

I was reading a few days ago about artificial pollination of Ceropegia juncea and they mentioned that the flower is receptive for just a few hours after opening but that the pollinia were not ripe until days later. What age did you harvest the pollinia and what age flower did you pollinate? I think...

Re: Ceropegia dimorpha seed follicles

The short answer is no, its not easy, however once you have developed a technique it is relatively straightforward. You would need to buy a stereo microscope, even then it took me over a year to master the technique and that is for dimorpha and simoneae which have relatively large pollinia. Woodii, ...
