Re: Bottom heat

Personally I think bottom heat helps with rooting at any time of the year as long as it doesn't push the plant outside of its temperature comfort zone.

However I have much more experience with 'normal' plants, not succulents.

Re: Biggish, best value, fastest growing, hardy in enclosed corner

What effect are you after? Maybe a hardy palm or cordyline might fit the bill for decent sized and not spiky? I also grow a few nice trees on big pots on my deck; Gingko, Aralia, Catalpa, Liriodendron and a few others. They work nicely as a kind of jumbo bonsai!

Re: Red flower?

Could it just be that the red flower is the result of recessive genes. These seeds may well have come from a red flowered plant, but the red genes have just not expressed themselves? Looking at the photos of 'red' plants I think this isn't a single gene locus kind of colour mutation - I reckon it w...

Re: Setiechinopsis mirabilis

but not a seedling in sight. Got about 40 seedlings going along nicely from seed kindly sent to me. Hoping I can break the 18 months for a first flower by cheating and using my office in the autumn and winter to keep them growing! Someone on here suggested they're closer to Cereus I think than Echi...

I've sown seed of this this year from the same source and was hoping for at least reddish purples! Oh well at least the normal colour is so pretty!

Well done Terry and that played fine from the site unlike the last one - bizarre!

Do you know how old the plant is and have you tried crossing it with anything???
