In theory, it should work applied to an areole.

Only with Phalaenopsis orchids. Basically apply it to a dormant bud and it can stimulate vegetative growth.

Another favourite. Sulcorebutia (and that is what I'm sticking with at the moment!) is such a good genius for flower colour.
