Re: Cacti Economics and the 20th century dream

I am not sure how much F-Flay knows about the UK nursery trade. There are I think only two substantial succulent nurseries, plus a third now in decline, all of which produce most of their own plants. All of the others are of the small back-garden, part-time genre. Some of these produce most of thei...

Nothing like a bit of racist xenophobia, hey?!
I’ve had excellent service and plants from the European growers.
I smell a troll.

Racist? more like experience, why are you not supporting UK nurseries? maybe you smell a troll because your words smell bad.

Re: Cacti Economics and the 20th century dream

Not bothered Tina, just curious like the innocence of two todlers of different racial backgrounds touching each others faces prior to indoctrination. It's something i am trying to promote being a balanced xenial and am prepared to be the hated scape goat for the greater good but if this place wants ...

Re: Cacti Economics and the 20th century dream

How do you calculate costs at that particular level? The cost of sales is Paypal and Ebay which are 15% between them; plant passports will be about £50 a month; postage is usually a separate charge. Depreciation on a 30 year old greenhouse will not be very great and the cost of heating isn't enormo...

Re: Cacti Economics and the 20th century dream

£700 - £1200 per month means current generations are never able to retire but not all generations feel the necessity to get every upgraded phone, unlimited data calls n text, netflix, cinema monthly passes, lots of meals out & socialising weekly, boys/girls holiday & joint ones. this is jus...

Re: Cacti Economics and the 20th century dream

What a strange post. Is this a dig at people selling plants, or a genuine question from someone thinking of setting up a small business? Or some thing else? The ‘turnover’ figures don’t state a time period. If that is weekly, then £400 profit a week is good income for many people. It is more than s...

Re: Cacti Economics and the 20th century dream

I reckon the cactus nurserymen in the UK are doing a great job, a wonderful service to the hobby, and next time you go to a Cactus Mart, maybe Spalding or Herne Bay next April, everyone should support our nurserymen by buying as many plants as possible and literally shower them with money. Stuart I...

When you are retired everything seems to be going out.
Indeed but the current retired generation usually don't have to worry about rent, £700 - £1200 per month means current generations are never able to retire
