Thanks Aiko! Maybe there weren't many contenders, but they were all very solid!
I really should pass the nomination to Paul whose plants are on those photographs. I will check this with him and one of us will propose a new subject promptly.

Re: Carpophyma
Thanks to how wide the spectrum of topics you cover here is, I always find one or two articles that I read immediately (here it's yes Ariocarpus one) and then come back to finish the rest later. Thanks for sharing!

Re: So where did I get this from….
Cact.us was a nursery that operated a couple of years ago in the UK, the website is down for a good few years now.

Re: North West Cactus Mart 2024 (Saturday 4th May)
Mat; Full list of sales tables is on the Manchester branch Facebook page. In addition I will have 3 or 4 tables with plants from a passed member, bargains to be had  I'd expect it to be on the website first, but thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Now I just need to find...

Re: Lechuza Pon
Noted, thanks MatDz. I had problems (entirely of my own making) last year using Chempak, so feeding is an issue for me... Use a quarter of what's recommended, and best to forget it from time to time anyway  I too overdid it a couple of times, can still see the odd leaves here and there on ...

Re: North West Cactus Mart 2024 (Saturday 4th May)
This is less than a month away and I haven't seen a thread about it, so here's one. https://manchester.bcss.org.uk/extra-events/ No info of sellers yet but I'm keeping my eyes peeled. The website still gives "nurseries attending TBC", is there a list that can be updated on the website and...

Re: Lechuza Pon
Lechuza-pon "consists of high-quality zeolite, pumice and lava", so you can quite surely get the same results with moler clay, grit and pumice mix, or anything similar to that. I'd also prefer to control the fertilisation a bit better by using water soluble Chempak with desired NPK ratios.

Re: April 2024 - Bursting out of the pot
A couple photographs from my recent visit to Paul's national collection of A., R. and W. (including S.!) near Aberdeen: 20240421_120848.jpg 20240421_120935.jpg There were (just a few!) more, but I was staring at the plants for a couple of hours and almost forgot to take pictures... Hopefully Paul wi...

Re: Composts again
Pine bark is certainly a promising peat alternative for some of the carnivorous species, mainly Sarracenia I believe. It might work fine for c&s? https://melcourt.co.uk/products/growbark-pine/Eric Williams wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 8:17 pm Slightly off thread, but has coir been found to be a successful alternative to peat? Thanks
