So you want Epithelantha, Ariocaprus, Geotinia, Discocatus etc..

Was in Bologna last week, so visited Andrea at https://www.mondocactus.com (20 min by train and a 5 min walk from the city centre). A bit eye-watering!. All seed grown, from mostly his own seeds. He has written about the big Mammilaria crucigera in this month's (?) journal of the Mamm Soc, apprarent...

Re: Germination!

Thanks Mat; I rubbed about half of them with a bit of 120 grit sandpaper; not sure yet whether it is the scarified or unscarified which have germinated... There are plenty of others which are not showing any signs of life yet!

Re: Pterocacti from seed

Hi Mike; yes most of mine came up like cress. (And for those that didn't I've just noticed a couple from a different source that have germinated 18 months after their siblings, so I'll be hanging onto my non-germinated seeds.) On the 'takes while to reach their normal form' point then I wonder if th...

Re: The Seed Pool - CLOSED

Isn't one of the differences between the forum seed poll and the BCSS seed distribution one of quantity? I have donated to both, but I recall there is, understandably, a minimum quality required for the BCSS one. And my thanks too to Chris for running the seed pool; I have had many seeds over the la...

Aberrant P skottsbergii?

I have about 100 seedlings up from sowings of Pterocactus seeds from bought from Elisabeth and Norbert Sarnes (thank you) at the TSG meeting a couple of weeks ago. Of all of those, two of the three of P skottsbergii SAR 2971 which have germinated have three cotyledons (the 'fourth' is actually the s...
