Re: Aloe polyphylla germination

Polyphylla @ 10 weeks: Polyphylla-10-wk.jpg Polyphylla-10-wk-close-up.jpg The two Rozetvormed that came up both died; lost one a couple of weeks ago and now the other. Did they rot? Can I take a cutting of this one and save it? Aloe-Rozetvormed-10-wk.jpg All others doing well. Though had to move the...

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination

Thanks for the info Tina and oh no! What went wrong? I was convinced they were not roots as the other roots had little hairs on it. I'll leave them as they are and see what happens then. Off topic, here are a couple more pics from the welcome seeds I received when I joined. Aloe-Rozetvormed.jpg Howo...

5 weeks since soaking the seeds....this is where I've got to: Polyphylla-5-wk.jpg Have a couple of questions if anyone would be so kind to lend their advice: The sand has gone green - is this algae? If so, what can / should I do about it? Get some fine sand and cover? What are the shoots? They're no...

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination

As a recent member of the BCSS and complete novice having never raised plants from seed - the sum of my gardening experience being keeping my three houseplants alive and a couple of potted plants in our tiny garden - I've hoped to raise Polyphylla from seed for a couple of years but never got around...

Re: New member seed list availability

Thanks for reminding me about the seed pool. I’d forgotten about that. Thanks also for the euphorbia recommendation - looks pretty cool!

New member seed list availability

Hi, Sorry if this is not the right place to post this. I’m a new member and have just received my membership pack and wonderful cultivation leaflets. A seed list order form was included but I read Ian’s article in the recent newsletter https://mailchi.mp/bcss.org.uk/bcss-monthly-enews-february-2021?...

Re: Hello from Plymouth

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Pleased to say the work aloe is being looked after at a colleague's home. There was some fierce competition as to who would adopt it and then suddenly it was smuggled out by moonlight! Branch meetings sound good for the future. The seeds came from Scampton Succulents...

Hello from Plymouth

Hi - I'm just just starting out - my aim for 2021 is to grow from seed. A massive Aloe at work sparked my interest which started out as tiny plant that our Australian contractor gifted us that is now massive! I'm missing seeing this wonderful plant now we're all working from home. I have a couple of...
