Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

Guys what are your thoughts on dinotefuran? I have one packet that says it's 50% of active ingredient.

Today I'll be sticking all lithops in methylated spirit, and probably gonna water with this pesticide week later?

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

I was willing to spend at least 200 euro every 2 months ( I know I'm not particularly well😅) i suppose it's this person's loss... Join the MSG (if you haven't already) and grow them from seed - it will save you a fortune and you can get them to flowering size in a few years. I'm with msg already an...

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

I hold a pesticide licence. I’m not sure that using an organophosphate insecticide in a small greenhouse or even indoors is totally wise. I wouldn’t do it, even with a respirator. There are safer options. I’ve had root mealie in the past and used a product called Gazelle to great effect. It’s a pro...

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

It was very unfortunate indeed, I'm not gonna lie it got into a confrontation which I'm not too fond of...my hands were shaking because I've never been met with such aggression when I pointed out a problem with shipement. Seller was hiding behind huge social media presence and all. Which again didn'...

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

Neat it is! I'm also thinking of cutting down the roots down to the stump and just hope for the best really. I mean I hope i can get rid of that nest in 4 months, fingers crossed. I've bleached the floor where I dismantled lithops, might do it again just in case because there are some cacti that I'm...

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

So I lm going to town today and gonna pick this one on woodies. Is that the one I need? Also should it be diluted somehow before usage? Has anyone tried diluted hydrogen peroxide before? Meant to kill existing root mealies too and aerate soil? I think I killed about 90% of all the critters and now j...

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

If I'd bought plants from a nursery and found they had mealies like that I'd be asking for a refund too. If you want to keep instead, then methelated spirits (and crossed fingers) is the only surefire way (read 99.9999% certainty) of getting rid of them. I've talked to the seller, didnt go all too w...

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

I soaked them in thiamethoxham, I had imidacloprid but I ran out 😭 I had acetamiprid but don't know where I put that.... I did see the bugs as well, they were attached to the neck of the root very firmly. It seems that I washed off about 90% but that's not to say that there are no eggs in there... t...

Re: Root mealy bugs on lithops

Stuart, I'm not the one to slam sellers publicly is there any chance you can let me know privately which nursery is that? I'm afraid it might be the same one. I'll more than likely gonna have to ask for a refund and look for another seller that would be more reputable.... I'm actually sick worried. ...

Root mealy bugs on lithops

Hey all! So I've received big shipment of lithops yesterday and decided to pot them up today. It had to be halted because I spotted wolly bits on the roots. Mature lithops are okay, but all the small ones had this. Now if it is root mealies I'll be annoyed beyond belief. I've never had root mealies ...
