Re: mysterious cacti question

Ralph, I'm not so keen on that but my partner would be happy no doubt to cut them up. What sort of problems happens as they get older? Stuart, if htey offset that would be helpful, but I don't know what sort of cactus they are so who knows. John, I have never heard of a Sylvac cactus planter, but it...

mysterious cacti question

2 small mystery cacti.jpg My partner acquired these two a few years ago and with some re-potting them have grown quite well, those are 3in pots. The question is, is it normal for them to be so top heavy, or is that an artefact of being on a windowsill with less light that they grew towards (Previou...

Re: My first attempt at 'staging'

As said above, probably too hard for many of us due to smaller houses, weight etc. I have a Mammillaria Matudae that is growing so much it will need some sort of staging involving rock and a big pot just so that I can keep it growing, but that will have to wait for us to put a conservatory or simila...

Re: What is likely to happen to this cactus now?

Cool, thanks, that is reassuring. I have sulphur from my re-enactment activities, I'll give it a go. The cacti I have lost before have been because I didn't water them properly, I've never had one break off before; I@v ehad cacti for years but only now have really gotten into them, so there are a fe...

What is likely to happen to this cactus now?

I have this cactus here, picture put as attachement, which the top of a stem has been knocked off. I'm not entirely sure what kind of cactus it is, and my girlfriend was moving plants around and stupidly put it on the sofa where a cat or the dog knocked the end of the stem off. The question is, will...

Re: Don't forget the On-Line talk on tuesday

That was interesting to watch. I have had trouble finding good pots, or at least pots that I like, I shall expand where I am looking and who knows, maybe I'll find one or two.

Re: In your opinion, which are the 3 worst pests in succulents?

Yes, cats and their tendency to knock plants off shelves or windowsills. But more seriously, I think although I might have had some red mite, mostly they have died through lack of water or too much, I'm not sure which. I think living in Scotland helps as does not having them near open windows all th...
