Hello edds, As soon as I saw your picture I thought of my Bolivicereus which came from Ralph at The Cactus Shop in Devon about 2 years ago, see what you think? It's similar but mine doesn't have the longer spines I can see on yours. Has your plant flowered? Not yet but I'm always hopeful.

This is the same Melocactus; which as you can see I've raised it up & surrounded it with a gravel collar. Also I started watering it fortnightly with root grow by Focus for a while.
