Re: A little help/advice

Hi JE. I hope that you and yours are doing ok at this weird and difficult time. It's amazing how the inexperienced views of newcomers to the hobby are able to complicate and dominate what used to be simply viewed as basic cultivation aspects of our hobby. Over time I am sure things will relate back ...

Re: A little help/advice

I have raised tens of thousands of cactus and succulent seedlings over the past 40+ years and have never sterilised, microwaved or used boiling water for any of my sowings. I have never used anything more than a fungicide to water my sowings, usually either Chinosol or Fisons Filex when it was avail...

Re: Cactus event at RHS Bridgewater this August?

As far as I'm aware, no southern nurseries or sellers have been invited to this event. I have spoken to a number of sellers who were at the last National Show, and those who attended the last National event which was at Lullingstone Castle in 2019, and most tell me that they have not been informed a...

Re: Sinningia leucotricha

I have a general interest in all members of the Gesneriaceae, commonly referred to as Gesneriads. There are many Sinningias that have never been considered to be remotely succulent, such as the popular houseplant Gloxinia, and although I would encourage everyone to grow more members of this plant Fa...

Re: Northern Cactus and Succulent Mart, 24 July 2021

Yes it will indeed be interesting to learn who has been invited to offer plants for sale at this event..... As far as I can tell, most southern based growers and nurseries, even those who attended the last National Show, or the last CactusWorld event have not been invited to attend, so it is unlikel...

Re: Echinocereus rigidissimus ssp. rubrispinus

Wow Diane
I didn't even know that there was a white flowered variation of this popular plant! It looks fab!
I hate to be a pedant, but the correct subspecies name for this plant is ssp. rubispinus (ie not rubRispinus)

Re: Aylostera pygmaea

And there we have it......for decades the 'lumpers' and the 'splitters ' have never agreed on the taxonomy and naming of related variants and they never will, so let's just agree to disagree and accept cultivar names for the miriad of variants, so that we can all recognise the range of geographical ...
