Re: Idetification help please

Yes, absolutely agree with Diane. This species needs a winter minimum of 10 degrees C but otherwise is easy in cultivation.

Re: Sad news - John Pilbeam

Heart breaking news. I have known JP since the late 1970s, and travelled to Mexico with him , Bill Weightman and Derek Bowdery on several occasions. John, Derek and I also went to Holland and Belgium together many times. All three of these close friends are now gone, and I will never forget the good...

Re: Aloe Erinacea flowering

I have found that A. melanacantha is easier to flower than A. erinacea, despite some authorities viewing them as forms of the same species. But I have never managed to set seed on either of them! Aloe longistyla is easy to pollinate if you have 2 plants from different sources, but I have never manag...

Re: Didymaotus lapidiformis

They are definitely very difficult and challenging in cultivation in the UK, and I wish you luck in the next couple of years. I find them easiest from seed in the first year or 18 months, but thereafter they seem to become more difficult. Hope you have better long term luck than I have achieved over...

Agreed 🙂
Without even any given detail on pot diameter it is difficult to assess or to determine.

Re: Nothing last for ever!!

Any of us who have used these bef pots for decades know that this is the eventual demise of the pots, but they still last for FAR longer than any others we have ever been able to obtain.

Undoubtedly agree that all of these flowers are spectacular.. .
but also agree that I have generally risen my slumbers far too late to enjoy their full display,!!

Re: Potting on hold

Next in the list of fledgling murderers is definitely Sparrowhawks, which are common here. They frequently kill and pluck numerous small birds and finches even on domestic gardens and lawns in my area, and then either consume or feed any gains to their nested offspring!, Frequently plucking their pr...

Re: Potting on hold

Yes fledgling mortality is depressing high here in Hampshire! Pet cats, magpies and jays are the 3 main culprits in our experience. But we have also found fledglings drowned in fishponds, buckets, and virtually any other water containers you can imagine over the years. Fledglings are definitely not ...

Re: Havering Cactus Mart

It's a relief to see it publicised at last!! This has traditionally been one of the most popular cactus and succulent sales events in the south-eastern area of the UK in recent decades. I am pleased to see it promoted at the last minute by local enthusiasts!! I look forward to meeting many people th...
