problem cactus

Hi, A member of our local gardening club has a problem with a cactus. It looks like a fungal infection to me but I'm not entirely sure. She says that she thinks it came quickly and suddenly last summer and has not affected the older part of the plant. Temperature in the conservatory never goes below...

Re: Confusion and contradiction.

I see no reason why a photo of Haemanthus albiflos should be excluded from a BCSS photo competition unless part of a show judged using the BCSS Handbook of Shows . BTW, I thought the pot would cause controversy rather than the plant. Also Ernie, the plant you included has the correct name of H. pauc...

Re: Confusion and contradiction.

Ernie, sorry if I've apparently caused you confusion. My authority for what is considered to be succulent is The Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants , 2nd ed., 2020, which I referenced in the latest CW article on Haemanthus albiflos . There, as I said, four species of Haemanthus , out of the cu...

I think some botanists are either confused, or poor at Greek - "Phyllopodia" means "leaf-feet". Whoever heard of plants having feet?

Re: Tylecodon cacalioides

Colin I was referencing the orange flowers of Ian's grandiflora. Whoops, OK, now I understand. Sorry, my confusion. If you've a photo of the flowers of your T. ? wallichii please post, or maybe when it next flowers? T. cacalioides has longer narrowly tubular flowers whereas those of T. walli...

Re: Tylecodon cacalioides

(tu) I love the little pegs that remain when the old leaves drop off. Ralph, thought you'd love to know this, but your "little pegs" are technically termed phyllopodia .   Incidentally the plant shown above has long rather than short phyllopodia so I think the sp. shown...

Stapelianthus help please

I give a presentation entitled Apocynads through the Ages which a few of you may already have seen. This covers all succulent members of the Apocynaceae (now including the Asclepiadaceae) for which I'm still searching for a snappier title. :???: Anyhow, Stapelianthus is currently missing and I'm aft...

Re: Sansevieria- a discussion

Ernie, I don't have these particular cvs. but have others. Closest to 'Skyline' I have is 'Shabiki' also from Dobbies (photo. attached). BTW both of these are very close to an earlier cv. named 'Boncel' and indeed these may all be genetically the same or very similar. tempImagef1YgFb.gif Sansevieria...
