When you register on the Forum, your account requires to be approved by an admin before you will be able to post.
In order to try and keep the Forum a safe place for BCSS Members and other cacti and succulent enthusiasts of all ages, everyone who registers is checked. If you are a BCSS Member and include your membership number, this is easy, because we can just look you up in the database. If you are not a BCSS Member, then we rely on the data you provide. If we can't find any traces by a brief online search, your account will be placed "on hold" until you get in touch with us by email and ask for Forum account approval.

If you registered a while back and still haven't been approved, please drop an email to forum@bcss(etc) using the same email account you put in your Forum registration, giving your name, the Forum username you selected, and a sentence about your interest in cacti and succulents.

I'm on my way back from China today. The storm took out my internet, which is why my website has been offline for several days. Apparently one of our apple trees was blown over, and I hope there is not too much other damage...

Schlumbergera kautskyi

My Schlumbergera kautskyi has decided to flower - maybe because we went away for a couple of weeks and left the heating off.

The flower is just like other Schlumbergera flowers, but much smaller, only about 1" (2.5 cm) long:

Tylecodon seed is very fine, and I suspect it doesn't stay viable for long. Perhaps Derek can comment if he is reading this?

Good to see that Aloe descoignsii ssp augustina flowering - mine isn't. :mrgreen: The flowers look rather yellower than on the type variety, if its not just your photo.

This plant grows like a series of letter Js JJJJJJ, rooting as it grows, with the back end going manky. If you take cuttings, its best to keep one as your main plant, and discard the rearmost piece, rather than trying to keep the same bit and pruning it. That's my experience, anyway. It grows best ...
