Re: Permethrin smoke bombs and mealybug

I have now used the smoke bomb - easy to light, and the smoke (aided by ceiling fan) seemed to nicely permeate the entire orangery - I will repeat every 10 days x 3 more treatments (4 bombs in a packet) and will feed back regarding efficacy.

Re: Permethrin smoke bombs and mealybug

Thanks Dave! Actually it's an orangery, so better sealed than a greenhouse (certainly than my greenhouse, anyway!) as I can close off the two entrance doors from the house, and close all the windows, and switch a fan on to distribute the smoke. I was hoping that a smoke might have a better chance of...

Permethrin smoke bombs and mealybug

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has any updates since the (2015) post https://forum.bcss.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=237729&hilit=permethrin#p237729 on this issue? I have had a mealybug problem in my orangery for years, various treatments (Provado, neem oil, dichlorvos pest strips) all seem to give temp...

Re: Substrate and re-potting

Many thanks for all the advice. I will certainly omit sand in the future, and will be more willing to use a coco/pumice mix for caudiciforms, but perhaps grit/JI for the remainder. Inside should be warm enough for a couple of weeks, and I'll put what I have room for in the greenhouse. Many thanks to...

Substrate and re-potting

Hi, Apologies if this is a previously-asked question, but I have searched the forum and not found what I was looking for. It may be that there is no perfect answer! There are two strands to my question, one is about temporarily uprooting plants, and the other about best substrate to use. I have a co...

Re: watering

I forgot to add to this post that I got some litmus paper and tested my tap water, having passed it through a water filter jut and let it stand for 24 hours. It was somewhere between 7 and 8 (closer to 7). I found by adding half a capful of distilled white vinegar to a 10L bucket, it went down to 6,...

Re: Caudiciforms

Again, thanks for all the advice, correct identification etc. The issue regarding 'habitat collecting' was not something I was aware of - I had naiively thought that all plants sold commercially would either be seed/cutting-grown, or bought in from someone's private collection (I myself acquired my ...

Re: Caudiciforms

Many thanks for all the replies and helpful signposting. I will amend labels accordingly!

I'll let Williams Cactus know about the Monilaei/Monanthes and the Gasteria/Aloe.

I didn't understand the comment about DT and the Avonia?

Regards

Alan
