Re: Echinopsis id
I'm fairly confident that it's rhodotricha. The inside of the flower is quite typical of rhodotricha and leucantha, but the short spines point to rhodotricha.

Re: Pterocactus - Jewels of the Cono Sur [download]
I'm sure nobby can comment when he sees this but I remember reading (or hearing, at the TSG meeting?) that they wouldn't publish any further paper books. I love the Austrocactus book and was astonished at the quality for the price. I have a growing number of ebooks and ejournals that I'd prefer on p...

Re: Pure mineral soil mix?
I recommend whatever your strombocactus is in if it works for you. I'm always uncomfortable recommending a soil mix, as what works for one grower mightn't work for another. My repeated failures with plants in JI soils demonstrates this all too well. That said, I've been using 1:1 grit and moler sinc...

Re: March 2021 - Neglected, forlorn
I'm picking Jim's Kalanchoe tomentosa (first pic) as the winner! Despite multiple ailments, the plant has a certain grace with its alternately leaning stem, and this makes for an attractive photo composition. This Kalanchoe tomentosa looked slightly better before I moved it so that I could photograp...

I think, as well, I'd expect to see flowers at the tips of the branch-end segments.
