Re: January 2025 - something new

but just to check, did you look at the full size (download/file.php?id=90185), and not the downsized display ones (download/file.php?id=90185&t=1)? Note the `&t=1` at the end of the URL. I went by the photos as they are on my laptop. If I look at the full size photo, it is a little better ...

Re: January 2025 - something new

It's been a quiet January generally on the forum, and that's also been the case in the photo competition. Terry's Echinopsis close up gives a good depth of field for a macro shot. Good work on getting a multi-faceted angle on 'something new'. Cidermanrolls' Echinocereus has done very well for a one ...

Still a day left. Time for some more photos. I'm assuming that we haven't yet seen all the new growth or new (2024) plants ...

Sheffield meeting January

Although the main roads are now fine, pavements are icy and treacherous. With predicted temperatures between +1C and -7C between now and tomorrow (Friday) evening when our meeting is due, we don't expect conditions to improve, so our January meeting has been called off.

January 2025 - something new

It's the start of a new year, so let's go for Something New . I have in mind either new growth or a plant new to you (say germinated/acquired since the start of 2024). If you can come up with another interpretation, see if you can convince me to allow it. I'll be judging the photo rather than the ...

Re: Are these offsets ?

The offsets are probably because the growing point has been damaged. In which case all the plants energy will go into the offsets, so they should grow at a reasonable rate. As Stuart says, they need to be larger before removing, and washing the white sap off with water is helpful. Once the sap stops ...

Re: Tylecodon singularis advice request

Looking very healthy and impressive, Mike. I'm trying to stick to admiration without envy creeping in. I followed the previous instructions for my plant about waiting for leaves to start growing in August, but nothing happened. The corm/tuber seemed firm. So come late September or early October I ...

Re: Winter is coming

There are actually 2 imbricata plants in the pot, Ray. One I grew from seed, it spent its first few years with winter protection; the other was acquired when a friend tired of it growing outside in his garden. Many years of being completely unprotected. They survive it rather than flourish in it.
