Re: John Innes compost
I bought some Westland John Innes last year and it was the best I'd had for some years. A few bits of wood, but less than usual and little plastic; good texture. I bought some more this year, it's horrible. Semi composted organic matter (including bits of wood and some plastic), and it seems to have...

Re: What's happened
Were the damaged parts the bits nearest the window? If so, I'd wonder about being cooked by the sun.

I had a day out at Harrogate Flower Show yesterday, pleased to see that York Branch had a well-earned Best in Show award.

Re: Any advice for Euphorbia bupleurifolia x susannae?
Its natural tendency is to produce a clump of small sized heads. I've never tried removing all the offsets, I suspect it won't work, but give it a try. The offsets root readily enough. For me, I like the appearance of a clump in leaf, it makes a neat mound; I find it less attractive when dormant but...

Re: March 2024 Marvellous Mesembs
I keep meaning to add some photos, finally got round to doing something. I think they all qualify as marvellous - I think so anyway. First 3 are of Lampranthus in Attila Kapitany's garden in Melbourne: Lampranthus AK.JPG Lampranthus AK 2.JPG lampranthus AK 3.JPG Then a wider view of the garden, so n...

Re: Crassula 'Bride's Bouquet'
In Gordon Rowley's Crassula book, the photo for 'Bride's Bouquet' is the same photo used for 'Springtime' , I've always assumed they were the same plant. The International Crassulaceae Network site has this on the 'Springtime' page Very similar to C. 'Bride's Bouquet', in fact when grown under iden...

Pachycormus discolor - cuttings?
I have a Pachycormus discolor from seed. Considering how old it is, my cultivation regime and the small bonsai tray it's in seem to have bonsai-ed it. however last year it grew quite a long stem out to one side. I must have put feed in the water somehow. The plant looks an odd shape with this branch...

Ravi Ivaturi in Sheffield makes ceramic pots, see https://vanapottery.com/
A bit far from Devon.
He does sell caudiciforms as well, but I don't think he has a website for these.

Re: Keeping my plants safe from the cats
For most cacti and succulents it would need to be on a sunny windowsill; the positioning in some of the photos in the link would only be suitable for plants tolerating low light levels. The drawback of a sunny windowsill is that temperatures inside a confined glass container could get way too hot in...
