Re: I've never started watering in February before.

Same here in Kent. First watering of all succulents apart from cacti - haworthias, gasterias, aloes, dorstenia and even chanced splash over brachystelmas, which are kept in back porch.

Re: Terry Smale

I have met Terry on number of occasions and I was also lucky to visit him and Jenny. His knowledge on all geophytes was second to none. He will be truly missed.

Condolences to Jenny.

Re: Aloe haworthioides var aurantiaca

Hi Ralph, I'd be very interested in seeing the flower on the second one, as the plant itself looks very similar to some of the hybrids I made using var. haworthioides. I'll send a pic when it flowers, but that's likely to be another 10 or 11 months... It came from Broookside. So did mine come from ...

Re: Aloe haworthioides var aurantiaca

I just had a look in The Aloes of Madagascar (Castillon) In which it states that the flowers of normal haworthiodes are white to pink while var.auranticaca are orange to red. If this is true, again it begs the question, is he talking about Tepal colour or filament colour? If it is filament colour, ...

Aloe haworthioides var aurantiaca

Hi all, My plant of a Aloe haworthioides is currently putting on a nice flower display, but a new addition from this year of a supposed var aurantiaca is not. I know the formal descriptions of both varieties, and the fact that they differ only by the flower colour, but I was wondering if anybody cou...

Re: Othonna carnosa problems

That is interesting to hear about seeds taking long time to germinate. I think they must be going into dormancy after a short period - perhaps like mammillaria theresae, which was recently discussed on the Forum. Over the last 2 months I have managed to successfully cross-polinate some of my othonna...

Do all your seed raised plants grow at the same time or are they equally self willed?
They are pretty consistent. Might be a number of reasons, like all coming from one mother plant- something I am unable to confirm, or the fact that they are growing in one larger tray.

Re: Dioscorea elephantipes - when to flower?

Still teenagers then, just repot n feed regularly. Are they growing well ?. I think mine may need a sunnier position as they are at the back of the greenhouse. Tony Morris who produces the seed for the BCSS has his on the floor but climbing up sticks, probably easier to get to the flowers this way,...

Re: Dioscorea elephantipes - when to flower?

How many years old are they and whats the size of them, mine are a good size & age ( from an older branch member) but don't even flower every year or at the same time . Plants are roughly 7-8 cm in diameter and coming to 6 year now. I was hoping that it might be enough for them to start flowering, ...
