Re: First Lithops to flower

Its the right time, but I don't even have a bud yet. I was sure it usually flowered in July for me, but I just checked and I see it flowered on June 27th last year. Still a couple of weeks early though. Been the best June for flowering that I can recall. I believe I was thinking of ssp. volkii whic...

First Lithops to flower

Well, the first one for me at least. I think this one is about a month early this year. June has been stunning so far.

Re: Choices, choices…

My order went in about 30 mins after the list was published and I've already paid and gotten confirmation that the order will be shipped next week. Probably just have to wait a little bit if you haven't heard back yet.

Re: I'm thinking Gymnocalycium maybe

I wonder if it might not be Matucana krahnii. You'll know soon enough if the bud develops. It's not a Coryphantha by the way. They also have naked buds, as well as grooved tubercles. You could be correct, mine also has two little pups developing at the bottom which would be right, mine doesn't have...

Re: A real stinker

They definitely smell bad. I've chopped off the flowers many times when there's no chance for pollination.

Re: Are you going to water your cacti

Right, I was thinking of the first part of the quote "...most cacti examined..." to see which cacti they tested. Also they say "...low temperature optimum..." which sounds like near 15C is optimal but unless their data show a dramatic reduction in CO2 uptake at higher temperature...

Re: Are you going to water your cacti

You may we'll be right, Nick. It certainly makes more sense for high altitude cacti to react to high night time temperatures. Here in Norway we almost never get night time temperatures above 20C. So far this summer the warmest it's been in the night was 18C, with 12-15C the most common range.
