Re: Whatever it’s called has flowered

Get rid of it before it 'carefully conceals' itself in the middle of the opuntias. Maybe the folk in the greenhouse next door would like it!

Re: Astrophytum flowering in different colours

The new flower colour on the flowers nearest the growing point is a typical yellow, as they age, quite a few Astrophytum flowers tend to turn a pinkish colour before they drop. I would expect the pink-looking flowers actually started off as yellow.

Re: Can anyone identify?

The best way to name plants is to show the photos here and there will usually be more than one reply with the same name. The worst way is to try to name plants using Google images.

Re: Sempervivum 'Gold Nugget'

This one is marketed under the 'Chick Charms' brand and is available at some garden centres. Quite a few sold under this brand have been renamed with more 'commercial' names which adds the problem of the same plant being sold under more than name. No.4 is. Notocactus and a Lobivia/Echinopsis. The sowing machine sometimes puts two seeds in one pot.

Re: Mammillaria saboae

Looks to have been grown quite hard which keeps it nice and flat, how I like to see it as a show plant. Grafted plants generally grow more open and don't stay flat. Although I propagate M.Saboae by grafting, I keep it on a short stock which doesn't show too much.

Re: Space between greenhouses

I've two areas where greenhouses are almost touching, about 4ins apart. One area has a 8ft x 6ft greenhouse running parallel with part of a 8ft x 40ft greenhouse, replacing glass would be awkward but has not been necessary for the 25 years that they've been there.

Re: At last .... flowers

Since writing that last post I’ve thought of two though didn’t know either one recycled old collections. I know it’s GOC, I spent my first 20 years there.
