Re: Caudiciforms

The Anacampseros (Avonia) was most probably from a large quantity of unrooted habitat-collected plants I saw in the wholesale trade a year ago. To grow a plant with a 'caudex' that size would take years so, unfortunately, there is a demand for larger habitat plants.

D.T. won't be happy with the Alstonii. Hope it's rooted by now.

Re: Mammillaria luethyi

I've only ever had grafted plants, although I've had success with grafting offsets despite not much 'flesh' to graft, I've never managed to keep one for more than a couple of years.

My white one has just flowered but all the other Echinocereus are only just up to the stage when the buds burst through the body.

Thanks Diane, I think it's time for me to buy some fresh velvet, I didn't realise how worn mine was until I saw how good yours looked.

Re: Aylostera supthutiana HJ516

They hardly look like the same species. I can think the only reason for grafting is that a grafted offset could be sold within a couple of weeks of grafting whilst rooting a cutting with enough roots to sell would take about a year so a quick way to make money from offsets is to graft them and sell ...
