Re: Old seed viability
Aymeric de Barmon puts on his seed offers the year the seed was harvested, I'm pretty sure. I have generally had pretty good success with his seed. I also get good results from his seed, and his pdf seed list has the following useful information for many species: Self sterile or self fertile ...

Re: Frithia pulchra question
'm not too sure that the issue is the 25C temperatures, as this is easily achieved, even in winter in the UK, if the sun shines. Not where I live :( The sun is probably more important than the air temperature, and there's been precious little of it for ages. Cooler nights will definitely help, but ...

Re: Snow
Since I posted earlier today, the metcheck forecast has now been revised. Minimum of -1C forecast now for Thursday / Friday instead of -7C.

Re: Snow
There are loads of sensational weather forecasts around. The Mirror is a particularly poor culprit. Metcheck is forecasting a very cold spell 2nd January and especially overnight into 3rd January, -7C in Birmingham. Met Office forecast low is -1C for the same period. I'll keep an eye on forecasts ...

Re: Stapeliad thread
It's been further suggested that it's S. hirsuta.
So much for "When it flowers I'll get a definitive i.d."

Re: Stapeliad thread
OK, no, I'm not sure! Thanks for the suggestion. Are there any definitive characteristics .e.g. in central parts of the flower, I should consider to confirm an id?Herts Mike wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 8:12 pm Sure it’s grandiflora? Looks more like obducta which is a prolific flowerer for me.
Thanks

Re: Stapeliad thread
Another Stapelia in flower yesterday. It's producing loads of buds in the propagator, it seems my stapeliads just want a longer growing season.
A seedling, from seed labelled S.grandiflora:

Re: Stapeliad thread
Another of the unrooted Huernia cuttings I bought over summer is doing well.
It's great to get a flower and (presumably) confirm the id, but I may have to kick it out of the propagator now to make space for seed sowing.

Re: November 2024 - What is flowering for you this November?
I have several plants wanting to flower very late this year. I took pity on this budding-up seedling about a week ago, put it in the propagator with warmth and light, and gave it some water. Yesterday I noticed the outside of the well-developed bud seemed very yellow, I was surprised to find it ...
