Re: Brexit deal and imports

I ordered some plants from Italy this month and they've arrived safe and sound. I needed to order a phytosanitary certificate with them which was about an extra £30 and shipping came to about £40-ish. Prior to this shipping would have been about £12 from this company. It took about a week and ...

Re: Potting mix advice for schlumbergeras

Thank you very much for the responses, much appreciated. I'm sorry it took me 7 months to acknowledge them. Most of my schlumbergeras have been cuttings so have always been potted in my own mix. Having considered their natural habitat a bit more I think where I might have been going wrong is ...

Potting mix advice for schlumbergeras

Hello, Can anyone advise me on what kind of potting mix works best for schlumbergeras please? I'm currently just using John Innes No. 2 with plenty of grit, but I've had issues with root rot so even though I don't water them a massive amount I think they could do with better drainage. :?: Any advice...

Re: Root mealybug control

Thank you very much to you all for your advice (a few months on from the original post - sorry!) I've thrown away all plants with bad infestations and have treated the remainder with a root drench of Compo Bi 58. All my plants are kept in a conservatory so no harm to insects outside. From what I gat...

Root mealybug control

Hi, Unfortunately it looks like a number of my succulents have root mealybug.I've binned the infested plants and salvaged the plants which don't appear to have the mealybugs in the soil but to be on the safe side I'm going to wash the roots and repot into fresh potting mix and pots. I understand tha...

Absolutely devastating, what a waste. Only used SilverHill a few months ago and they were brilliant.

Re: Optimum temperature to germinate echeverias

Hi Liz. Thanks very much for the advice, that's reassuring to know. The seller had included a note saying stating that echeverias don't germinate above 20 degrees and I wasn't sure if this was a strict rule for all varieties or just certain types. I hadn't realised that succulents don't respond in t...

Optimum temperature to germinate echeverias

Hi I've sown quite a number of echeveria seeds for the first time over the last few days and I'm a bit concerned that germination might be hindered by the temperature in my home being too high. I've been advised that the optimum temperature for germination is between 18 and 20 degrees, whereas the t...

Re: Winter losses or damage

No losses apart from an Aloe flower stalk which had a cluster of aphids munching on it. I've also had evidence of thrips on my crassula, though I think much of it is autumn damage. I'm currently in the process of cleaning the whole conservatory and will be treating with SB Plant Invigorator ...
