Re: Birmingham Show - Best Cactus and Succulent
I'd expect it is the same Ceraria Pygmaea in the photo from 40 years ago. I'm impressed that you could find a photo that quickly, I certainly couldn't. It's now in a large pot, probably larger than it looks in the photo, about 12ins across. I don't know if Tom collected it himself but there were a h...

Re: Indoor Succulent Garden
The display with running water would have been at the San Diego show, back in the days of slides which I haven't converted to digital. It may have been an entry by Rudy Lime who wrote a book on caudiciform / bonsai succulents. US shows treat plants as much more of an artwork, show plants in plastic ...

Re: Birmingham Show - Best Cactus and Succulent
Yes, that's Bob's plant, Specks used to sell what were probably habitat plants with a caudex about 5cms across, I've not seen this plant before but it's probably been in cultivation for 50 years knowing its history though it was probably a habitat plant. I didn't know when I judged it. Even small se...

Re: Indoor Succulent Garden
Thanks Tony, I see it now, maybe it should have been green rather than white. There was a bonsai-looking Ficus Petiolaris at a show in the US that was trained around a rock that had a running miniature waterfall incorporated. A drop of washing up liquid would have livened it up. I think it had to be...

Indoor Succulent Garden
IMG_5355.JPG I think this was at the last National Show and here it is at Birmingham last month. ' There's been a great deal of work and artistic skill go in to it, normal classes at a show don't cater for something like this so it's always good to see a class for indoor gardens or something like t...

A new use for Lithops
With a bit of training, this could be how to keep mesembs warm over the winter, maybe not suitable for cacti.

Re: Todays photo
'Amazingly Dear' could be applied to quite a few of the best Haworthias. That ones a beauty.

Re: Does this Gymno look okay
Assuming it was originally all one plant, it looks like the offsets have rooted separately and pushed out the original head in the centre. It doesn't look that great, a bit past its sell-by date, I think I'd split it next spring.

Re: Autumn Cactus and Succulent Show at RHS Harlow Carr 23/9/2023 - the photographs
The Copiapoa Solaris was a well-deserved winner, Colin Norton used to have a row of six of them, all in nice clusters and probably imports, but it's rare to see a plant nowadays with more than a single head. I can't remember when I last saw one for sale apart from a few small grafts. I don't think I...
