Re: SOUTH WEST SUCCULENT PLANT SPRING FAIR APRIL 6th 2024

Great start to the season, plenty of quality plants for sale. The hall isn't ideal for loading with steps preventing trolley access but plenty of much appreciated help with loading in and out made it easy. I bought six plants and had £10 change from £200 but there were plenty of nice plants for sale...

Re: BCSS National Plant Fair - 10-11 August 2024

I think something went wrong with the initial details sent to nurseries. I hadn't heard and got the info from another nursery. One of the 'regulars' at Cactus Marts hadn't heard when I was speaking at his branch last week. Maybe all the sellers not on the list should be re-contacted. It should be a ...

Re: Crassula Ovata Collum varigata

'Gollum' rather than 'Collum' it seems to have been a sport of 'Hummell's Sunset' and will colour up well in the sun, I have it as 'Red Horn' It's a nice plant to grow as a semi-bonsai form.

Re: mysterious cacti question

I'd leave them as they are but prop them up with a wooden coffee stirrer cut in half and placed at the far side so it doesn't show. They should offset in time and the offsets may cover the narrow neck. Aim for plenty of sun and 'a little neglect' - not too much water.

Re: Crassula 'Bride's Bouquet'

In Gordon Rowley's Crassula book, the photo for 'Bride's Bouquet' is the same photo used for 'Springtime' , I've always assumed they were the same plant.

Re: Love 'em or Hate 'em ....

There's conflicting information all over the place when it comes to growing cacti and succulents. I'd water a grafted plant based on the stock used though the scion doesn't want to be 'pumped up' and bloated. If the scion is a fast grower then it probably doesn't want grafting in the first place. Gr...

Re: Love 'em or Hate 'em ....

They'll graft quite easily and grow better on Echinopsis though it has a bad habit of producing too many offsets on the stock, each areole seems to be able to only grow one offset so there is in theory, an eventual end to brushing off offsets. For grafting I'd recommend the extending Stanley knife w...

Re: Love 'em or Hate 'em ....

DSCF2780.JPG I've had this one for a few years, it lives with other variegates though doesn't seem to grow much. It has gone through the last few winters at 3C which isn't too bad as the usual problem with these plants is that they were grown in much warmer places, many are grown in Brazil, and the...

Re: Mammillaria ID

I'm not sure how anyone could have sold this as Mamm Crucigera, I'd agree that M.Nejapensis seems fairly OK for this one. A real Crucigera that size would sell for £50 or more online.
