Re: Mammillaria luethyi

Beautiful, lovely looking plants. I put a tissue cuff around/underneath the plant so I can collect the dropped seed, get seeed but no germination but its good to have a challenge. Thanks Tina, I also tried similar with the tissue idea and it did work for the ones that fell out. The ones that shot o...

Re: Mammillaria luethyi

Thanks Diane :). I did find some seed when I first got the plant but as you say I had zero success getting them to germinate. I did some more careful rooting around in these and my two M.theresae who also have concealed seed pods and managed to extract a few from both theresae’s. I’m getting good ge...

Re: Mammillaria luethyi

My favourite plant in bloom today, along with its grafted friend so I have had the paintbrush out to see if I’m able to get them to set seed. Most likely both are clones from the same plant but fingers crossed. :) 2BD02DD4-60ED-4E72-B20E-6E1A1E035152.jpeg B5AE00ED-9DA5-4BC3-8400-A4024255C1A1.jpeg 6A...

South of Yecora is the location of the original habitat material for your plant, no reason from the label to think it's anything other than typical for the (sub)species :

Mammillaria haudeana

I’ve found this plant to grow very quickly for me, almost tripling in size in under two years. This one is on its own roots and so far I’ve not found it particularly hard to care for considering what I’ve read about it being hard to keep alive (hopefully I’ve not jinxed myself now :D). Quite a few e...

Re: What happened here

Here is one of mine as of today which, like yours, is pretty much a goner sadly. Mine feels very hard to the touch and not at all “squishy” which leads me to believe it must be some kind of dry rot.

Re: What happened here

Sorry to see this Gerald. I have one with an almost identical rot patch that appeared very slowly since summer last year. It now looks just like yours. Seems they must be prone to this type of rot.

Re: Outdoor Cactus bed NW England.

Thanks. I haven’t put anything down for slugs but I find that with the clay granules they tend to stay away with them being kept dry as they don’t like travelling across it. Now the cover is off though I will need to keep an eye on it during summer rains but so far so good :) I’m not treating for an...
