Re: Hello from Northern California

Welcome JCMad. I once worked part time in some research greenhouses for Dow chemical products in Walnut Creek, Ca. growing mainly cotton seedlings for insecticide trials, but I also helped grow rice from seed. The man who hired me (Larry Larson, now passed) was an avid stapeliad grower. When he saw ...

Re: Pelargonium flowers

20210130_162254.jpg I bought a few species from http://www.geraniaceae.com/ in July. I think one of them is the species shown here. It is Pelargonium praemorsum ssp. speciosum . The 2 plants started growing about a month ago. The leaves are 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. Hopefully they will bloom this spring.

Re: Updated seed lists

I sent in my order to ADBLPS a few minutes ago. When they reply with the items that aren't available any longer, I'll post them here for those also placing an order, as they usually don't update their list until next year (showing what's been sold). One thing I like about their operation is that the...

Re: An Introduction

Paul, you're correct about Greg's expertise, and he's a really nice guy. I have purchased many rare plants from him that you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

An Introduction

I've been curious about cacti since I was 7. My first interaction with a cactus was removing a fallen joint of Cylindropuntia bigelovii from my mom's heel in the vicinity of Needles California (during our move from Tulsa to Los Angeles) because I insisted they let me stop and collect one. After that...

Re: Hi from High Wycombe

It is not an Arizona native, but they do quite well in many parts of this section of the Sonoran desert. One advantage they have over our native Saguaro is their growth rate is about twice as fast. You are correct about the size of the club here. The only one I know of which may be larger is the San...

Re: Hi from High Wycombe

It looks like a common cactus around these parts (Sonoran desert), Pachycereus pringlei. If kept warm and watered when actively growing, it should bloom in less than 10 years.
