Re: Cacti in Portugal

Obrigado Fabião! I've got SIRO CATO substrate from Cacti Jardins. And a smaller sack of substrate "from abroad", another side of Guadiana, Ayamonte. )) Small dark stones seem like not safe because of possible heat damage. As I said I've got white marbel gravel 1cm +/- for an 1 euro per sac...

Re: Cacti in Portugal

So, I used SIRO CATO (with peat) + sand + cat litter 2+3+1 and leca as a drainage, all I could find there. The most difficult was finding a small stone gravel to cover the substrate surface of the pots but it's also available from building materials Company surprisingly very cheap. It's very interes...

Re: Selenicereus Grandiflorus doesn't like cold weather

My Queen of the night didn't forgive me cold dry overwintering, dried out roots and bottoms of stems and didn't give no one bud next year. These ones need light for blooming, though maybe overwintering in the darkness is possible if flowering isn't a term of concern.

Re: Cacti in Portugal

OK, muito obrigado Fabião! (tu) Hope to make something on our small autumn vacations and first trip after a 2-year COVID-break. Want to sing foolish as mr. Bean ( Charles Trenet ) "La Mer" Mat, there's a peat in both but german one consists an additional guano (!) which i...

Re: Agave talk & pictures

Comparing to earlier shared here picters my ones are more than very modest. Some of my small and very young agaves, people don't very often grow them due to large dimensions, but it's impossible imagine collection without them. Hoping to move some luckies later in more suitable climate. The first, a...

Re: Cacti in Portugal

One more question. I find now two types of ready substrate for cacti and succulents in garden centers of Algarve: Floragard Kakteenerde (from Germany) and Siro Cato (Portugal). Ready substrate I use as a component of own mixture usually about 1/3 of volume. Who has an experience with these substrate...
