Re: Sulcorebutia crispata seed germination

The numbers I was quoting were air temperature. There is some warming from underneath for my pots and also sunny winter days push the air temperature up a bit, so the compost can get a bit warmer. I did think of getting a soil temperature probe but even then it is really the temperature that the see...

Re: Sulcorebutia crispata seed germination

Hi These seedlings (S. heinzii RH_3237) are a little more variable than average. They are all from the same sowing. In terms of temperature, I've recently been growing Sulcorebutia crispata subs. hertusii from seed and they come from around Zudañez which looks to get up to 27 o C or so. So lower mid...

Re: Enough Lithops?

Homebase had some nice cacti - I recently bought what I assume is M. plumosa, which has grown well and flowered. But their cacti labelling is on another level - and this seems to come from their supplier. The plant prices are very low though. My pot had multiple seedlings- ~£1 per plant. At that pri...

Re: Sulcorebutia crispata seed germination

Looking at the Sulco-passion Gertel Gallery images I'm always surprised by the variation in plants appearance even within individual field numbers. When I get decent germination rates (or lots of seed) it sometimes seems every Sulco seedling looks a bit different. Has anyone tried crossing similar p...

Re: Cactus Shop

It is a shame- hopefully Cactus Shop can continue in some form or other.
I noticed the statement on the Cactus Shop front page "We regret that due to the failure of Brexit we can no longer ship overseas orders".
Says it all.

Re: Killermite bug treatment

That's weird, another post arrived mid- type and I ended up with two posts with different edits.
I'm sure I couldn't repeat this if I tried.

Re: Killermite bug treatment

Mites can hibernate over the winter if plants are resting and then return (after a nice break) in the Spring. So they might be hiding... But it will interesting to see in the Spring when the plants warm up again. It would be really great if there was a product that could keep these pests away for a ...

Re: Killermite bug treatment

Mites usually hibernate over the winter if plants are resting and then return (after a nice break) in the Spring. I understand they can overwinter as eggs or as adults. I've watches adults 'parked up' for the winter lodged between tubercles - they don't move over winter and look dead. They are hard ...

Re: Importing seeds from the EU to the UK

I was wondering what happens if you import CITES 1 cactus seed? Does the Phyto still serve as the CITES
documentation and what is the procedure? I'm not planning to do this sort of order myself anytime soon but it would be nice to have clarity.

Re: Sulcorebutia crispata seed germination

I was wondering about the temperature for germination of sulcos? I seem to have most success when it is a bit warmer than 20 o C -maybe 27 or 28 o C daytime. I've not done a proper side by side comparison though- but when I checked the Sulco-passion site they also recommend a similar warm temp. I do...
