Well done for flowering one so small! From reading up on them (not experience) they will abort buds if they don't have the reserves to carry them all.

Absolutely a guide only - I feel it is only accurate enough to say something is thoroughly dry as in my potting mix they never seem to register above moist even after a good soaking! I've got one. Just the stick in pH /Moisture type sold in most garden centres. As a relative newbie I find it useful to check, especially on larger pots, that they have dried out all the way through before watering again. Otherwise I'm a bit too heavy-handed with the watering can!

Did they rot? Can I take a cutting of this one and save it? Looks like rot. Aloe don't come from leaf cuttings as far as I know and even things that do don't usually work from rotten leaves, sorry. I managed to retrieve this from my mum's house today. I had let her borrow it while we went on holiday past week as it was just starting to flower and it seemed a shame to waste it flowering in an empty conservatory!
