Re: 'Scale' on mammillaria?
I find these excellent for wearing around the greenhouse for checking plants. They just flip up when not in use and will certainly not break the bank. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Four-Lens-1-6x-2-0x-2-5x-3-5x-Replaceable-Lens-Head-Headband-Loupe-HGVV/383662528328?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOME...

Re: Coldframes
Do you find you spend as much time just standing and looking at your plants (which I do for hours in the g/h) when they're in a frame? I spend time looking at mine in the greenhouse but these days it's mainly from a sitting position. I also wear a magnifying headset, not a lot escapes me then. http...

Re: Confusing names: aren't rebutia and aylostera the same
You must have missed Ivor Crooks' talk on his views of Rebutia, a few weeks ago Apparently the lumpers lumped these together before the DNA evidence was published. ( Now I think I've got it right) That DNA evidence shows that if you lump in Weingartia then you have to also include a whole swathe of ...

Re: Sowing Massonia seeds.
John Innes 1,2 and 3 are loam based. Loam+peat+sand/grit+fertiliser
If you want straight loam then it's just top soil. Sterilised if you don't want to grow weeds.

Re: Fungus gnats
I would love to try the nematodes but I am keeping plants indoor, in the living room to make it even more difficult, so I don't really want to introduce any additional living creatures  The use of nematodes indoors is much preferable to using a chemical pesticide. They'll not come out of t...
