Re: BCSS WhatsApp Group / Other Plant Groups

I believe that WhatsApp is best for smallish groups who know each other. So no, use the forum, or the Facebook groups which seems to be replacing forums. The advantage of a forum is that you can search and find what you're looking for. Facebook Groups appear to be ephemeral, and finding things more ...

Columnar cacti IDs please

A good friend of mine has the task of identifying and then finding a new home for a few tall cacti. They aren't immediately identifiable, though my thoughts go to Pilosocereus. But I'm not really familiar with these. I'm sorry but the photos which look fine now seem to be sideways. I hope they can b...

No, I'm very much a Zoom novice, and while I know its possible, haven't used it yet, and with a large audience, not the time to try for the first time.

Re: Mammillaria talk tonight

Thanks guys. I don't know where the time went, as when I practiced it, I got through it in about 1 hr 20 mins. Must have talked more quickly! For those who are wondering if we'd do more, then yes, we will, and are planning one one each quarter. If they go down wel with our members, then they could w...

Re: Straightening a top-heavy mammillaria?

As M, schwarzii is a heavily clumping speies, the heads tend to elongate as they produce offsets around them. Its not normally visible as the thin bit is surrounded by the other heads. I'd use gravel as suggested and once the offsets come, all will be hidden.

Terry was a fount of much knowledge and expertise. I was always impressed by his knowledge and his willingness to pass it on in a helpful and kind manner. The world is a poorer place for his passing.

Re: Brexit deal and imports

Will we still be able to order seeds from, for instance, the USA without extra charges or forms to fill in? That's exactly what I was wondering. I've bought seeds from Mesa Garden for years, and never needed any paperwork. In theory our new trading relationship with the EU should not affect how in ...

Re: December Cactus world is here

Still waiting, post is highly erratic. I'd support a change of when the seed list comes out. March isn't too late to sow seeds, and avoids the postal chaos near Xmas. Ideally though you could detach the timing of the seed list from that of the journal completely, with members getting an email with l...

Re: Neolloydia?

There are (at least) two different forms of Neolloydia conoidea. One has central spines, and the other doesn't. Sometimes that one is called grandiflora. I've seen both forms in habitat and they certainly look rather different, though its the central spined form that I've seen as seedlings, and they...
