Re: New polytunnel

Sweltering day in the tunnel today, built a new bench, a second one to follow soon. Repotted a hundred or so Stenocacti, turbs and mamms under my sunshade before wilting in the heat.

Re: Solufeed

On the topic of feeding- I've recently bought this Dutch hose end feeder from birchmeier https://www.birchmeier.com/en/content/produkte/aquamix-1-25-v/index.php Best purchase I've made in ages, can feed many thousands of plants in minutes. Set to 0.2% and filled with tomorite it delivers just over h...

Re: New polytunnel

Thanks for the replies folks, useful suggestions. Re: Shopfront - I've got a website very nearly ready to go live, built by my ingenious better half. I'm hoping I can do everything through my own website, but may also go the ebay route depending on how things go - it does seem to work well, as Cider...

Re: New polytunnel

Time for a very long overdue update, life has been rather busy with a new job etc., but the cacti are still growing away apace, and I'm still spending a lot of time repotting! The business idea will happen, and now I've got a little more time, it shouldn't be too long before I have a website up and ...

Re: New polytunnel

Thanks for the replies all, very encouraging! Shan't be too long now until I start selling plants, likely autumn or next spring. A few photos from today - was about to start taking picture of all the flowering mother plants when my phone ran out of battery, so only seedlings. Matucana ritteri first ...

New polytunnel

I put up a 36x16ft polytunnel in November last year, with the aim of eventually having a small mail order nursery along side my 'real job'. The tunnel was heated over the winter by a 11kw gas heater (not that it was needed much), with the aim of keeping the tunnel above 1.5c. I have a couple of thou...

Re: Crushed brick substrate

Thanks all for replies, and my apologies for tardiness in replying myself. I've realised that in fact I can get by with a good few bags of multi purpose/John Innes 2, good quality grit and Sophisticat pink - In reality I'll be re-circulating a lot of the compost anyway since plants will indeed be so...

Re: Crushed brick substrate

Thanks all for the very helpful replies, much appreciated. I've made a quick google search for a brickworks in my neck of the woods (Devon/Somerset border) and can't seem to find anything, which is frustrating, since Iain's suggestion of calling by a brickworks sounds very sensible. I'm thinking I m...

Crushed brick substrate

I recently erected a 36x16ft heated poly tunnel  with the aim of eventually having a small scale mail order nursery as a second job/hobby, and am in the process of repotting several thousand seedlings which have made it through the winter and are plumping up again. Because I'm just moving from ...

Re: Trust worthy seed suppliers

Regarding the Czech suppliers - Cactus hobby BRNO deliver relatively promptly but I've had very bad germination rates with their seed so I tend to avoid them. Pavel pavlicek at cact.cz is very good, good quality seed and very cheap. Kaktusy rysavy is also very good, and I can recommend them.
