Provado in winter

Hello, I've got a nice Turbinicarpus jauernigii which I got this summer, but as I was putting it to bed for the winter I noticed a number of mealies hiding in the pretty dense apical wool. I've picked out as many as I can with tweezers and have had to remove a fair bit of wool in the process unfortu...

Re: Plants from Mesa Gardens

I'd been considering ordering some plants from mesa, but had been put off by tales of extensive difficulties at customs... Talking of EU alternatives, does anybody have any experience ordering plants from any of the czech sellers online? http://kakteen.cz/ for example seems to have a pretty decent a...

Re: Light levels needed for cacti over winter

Sorry if this is hijacking your thread a little Gerald, but I've been thinking about this too. My issue is that the room I plan on keeping them in isn't that cold since it's above a living room which often has an open fire. Is there a danger that if temperatures get a little too high then plants wil...

Re: Rummage at your peril

Yep I'm pretty chuffed with what I managed to get.

Patrick - Did you grow some of these plants? Which ones? Amazing that most of them came from two members, they must have impressive greenhouses!

Re: Rummage at your peril

Here's my haul, had to restrain myself to only get 7 plants. Re: Rummage at your peril

Hi Phil,

I realised after I posted you might be a different Phil, oops!

The plants were indeed reasonably priced, and a great selection too, I picked up a Puna subterranea too, another I've been wanting for a while.

I'll post pics tomorrow after work.

Re: Rummage at your peril

The stand looked amazing this year, and the sales table was excellent, I'll post some pictures of the plants I purchased when I get my camera working. Especially pleased to get hold of a Pelecyphora strobiliformis at a knockdown price! Also a pleasure to meet Phil and co.

Astrophytum hybrids

I recently crossed two of my astros, and am looking forwards to sowing the seeds soon! (I'm sowing some seeds in the next few weeks and will overwinter them under 4x38w T8s.) Here's the dad (not sure if it's a pure asterias this one): http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj234/cob201/SAM_0931.jpg Here...

Re: Rescue mission

Great thread, very interesting to see that the plants managed so well in such apparently adverse conditions. I was thinking though, when you see habitat pictures of large cacti growing from humus filled cracks in rock I always think their rootspace must be seriously limited, so maybe it's just not t...
