Re: Question about seedling light levels

Thanks Ian.

I've already raised the light when I first got concerned and I will get some shading on the window tomorrow at seedling level.

The plants are Echinopsis hybrids, Rebutia species (in the wide sense) and a Lobivia scheiliana so hopefully nothing too tricky!

Re: Question about seedling light levels

Thanks Esp. I was thinking of putting some greaseproof paper or similar on the lowest part of the window as the sun got stronger in February or March. Is there a physical indicator I should look for in the seedlings to know when the sun is getting stronger? The led is only 27W so I wouldn't want to ...

Question about seedling light levels

Due to a significant lack of patience, I've started some seeds off inside already. They are on a South-East facing windowsill which gives them direct sun until 1ish at this time of year but bright light until sunset. I then have an LED striplight in Daylight colour temp (6500K) from 3:30 to 8pm. The...

Re: Use of Gibberelic acid?

I'm not sure any Agave species are known for exhibiting dormancy. >90% germination within 2 weeks is unremarkable for good Agave seed in my experience, so getting good germination with GA3 doesn't seem to demonstrate very much, if anything. If you'd got the same results with Cyphostemma or Cumulopu...

Re: Use of Gibberelic acid?

BUT did you have a control where none were treated with GA3, otherwise this is not usable information. It's perfectly usable information without a double blind study. The OP asked if any members have used it and with what results which is relevant to what I posted. At no point did I say the GA3 cau...

Re: Use of Gibberelic acid?

I should have added I used the equivalent of 1 gram per liter and dissolved it with a fair bit of isopropyl alcohol to get it to dissolve.

Re: Use of Gibberelic acid?

I've just used this on some Agave seeds and a yucca. I got rapid germination with around 70% or better germination in Agave montana, parryi, filifera ssp. schidigera and victoria-reginae. No Yucca rigida seeds have yet germinated. I've since lost most of the v-r to damping off, despite administering...

I've sown three sets of seeds and had germination in some of all three. Still waiting on Yucca rigida and Aloe polyphylla to start germinating though!

Re: Updated seed lists

My Chiltern Seeds catalogue arrived today - not a specialist listing by any means but has some seed from Abbey Brook listed (Echinopsis, Trichopsis and Lithops), general cacti mixes, Aeonium and Echeveria mixes and Echeveria peacocki. They also list Aloe polyphylla but say it's expected February/Mar...
