Re: Red flower?

Oops! Thanks for the correction Suzanne. Of course it was a Fenestraria. My memory is definitely not what it used to be .... I must start double-checking things before I post them online!

Re: Setiechinopsis mirabilis

Very nice Terry,. Is there any way you could incorporate the delightful and distinctive perfume within the video? The smell always reminds me of Germoline. Although I am aware that this reference might mean nothing at all to overseas members of the forum.

Re: Collective nouns

What a lovely idea!
How about a medley of Mammillarias.
Or a plethora of Parodias
Or a symphony of Stapeliads.
Or a sonnet of Sulcorebutias.
Or a rhapsody of Rebutias.
Or an aria of Aloes... or Aylosteras.
Or an epiphany of Escobarias.
Or a delight of Discocactus.

I could go on......

Re: Red flower?

As far as I'm aware, the first recorded mention of the red flowerered variant was by the late Ernest Hepworth from Sussex, UK, who named the plant with the cultivar name of 'Fireworth'. Over the years I have had a number of occasional red flowered sports appear among the typical purple flowered plan...

Re: Cactus event at RHS Bridgewater this August?

Some of the inexperienced newcomers in this forum think they know everything, and yet they have limited experience of our hobby. Once they have experienced decades of growing experience in our hobby they might learn a little humility., and respect the experiences of those who have grown succulent pl...

Re: Frost or cold damaged cactus, regrowing.

Like all plants, most cacti are only hard to identify when you don't know too much about them, or when you don't have a lot of experience in growing them. I have no doubt that Stuart's ID of Polaskia chichipe is correct. Once you are able to distinguish various characteristics, you will be able to d...

Re: It was a long wait…

Sorry about that Ralph,
Perhaps I should have added a comment to say that both speces have proven to be exceptionally easy to grow in certain areas of Wales.
I hope that helps! And good luck too......

Re: It was a long wait…

Congrats Diane. This species, along with C. tripugionacantha, rates among the most highly regarded and cherished species in the genus. Many people who see immature seedlings seem to have no idea of the potential of this sensational species, but as you say, it is one of the most touchy species in cul...
