I wish all my pots in the dishwasher
I sow my seeds in a purely mineral compost, which avoids problems with moss and stuff. I also use chinosol as a disinfectant.
Compost = sand, fine grit, perlite (seed grade), cat litter, vermiculite (seed grade)

Re: Pelargoniums
Derek I don't know what you mean by semi-succulent, but given that mine get no water for the summer 6 months of the year, and survive on that, that seems just as succulent as many cacti to me. Of course, "what does succulent mean" is like as king "how long is a piece of string"? ...

Re: Othonna's
I've never had any self-set seed on any of my succulent Compositae, for what it's worth.
Tyelcodons (a different kettle of fish, of course) have occasionally resulted in volunteer seedlings, although whether this is due to self fertility, or crossing, I am not so sure.

I have been looking for B. dactylopsoides, B. bruynsii, B. fallax, B. haworthioides, B. margarethae and B. wiesei for some time. B. inamarxiae is also well worth growing.
