Re: "Benefit" of BCSS central library

I've never seen proper info about how the library works. As a C&S book addict I'd be in heaven shut in a room with the library. Again, with recent advances in the digitisation (is that the word or is that turning it into a finger?) of old, old books you might hope national societies like the BCS...

Re: Lost/Pruned Threads

I'm uncomfortable with the idea of someone deciding what is worth keeping and what isn't. Even I don't know what I will be interested in in 10 years. I know I've made reference to cacti_etc before but their strategy of archiving everything has proved great for me - I've been ploughing through lots o...

Re: Oh dear, been to the garden centre...

I'm immensely jealous of your Corynopuntia invicta - you don't see them very often even in specialist nurseries and they're always expensive.

Re: Cactology close to the end

When I've bought plants (visiting) his prices are a bit arbitrary anyway. Think of a number, knock a bit off and then round it down (though I've had a good number each time). I think that vagueness on his website has probably lost him a few customers. Have you had bad experiences buying mail order? ...

Re: Forum Size and Usage - Do we need to set limits?

I agree with Bill. If the setup we have can only cope with one year's worth of posts then it is inadequate. I frequent half a dozen forums and I've never heard of anything like this. Not as big as your land rover forum but one php one I use has 200,000 posts from ~5600 members. Posts go back to 2003...

Re: Forum Size and Usage - Do we need to set limits?

So how do so many other forums manage to hold posts for so long?

Re: State of the Hobby ?

There've been some great ideas in this thread so far - I especially like the idea of all [new] members getting a username/password for the forum. This place doesn't really feel to me to be part of the BCSS because so few of the 'bigwigs' are involved. They should be. I do think communication is terr...
