Re: ID please

It’s an Epiphyllum hybrid. But beyond that, who can say. There are literally thousands of hybrids and I have two from seed that have just flowered and look very similar to yours. But please don’t let the absence of a name put you off. If you like it, give it your own name. My flowered seedlings are ...

Re: Echinocereus Flowers

Two clones of Echinocereus triglochidiatus mohavenis flowering together. So different in spination, so similar in flower. These are the same age and grow right next to each other in the greenhouse so this is all nature, not nurture.

Re: Root mealy bug

I’ve successfully, I believe, managed to eliminate root mealies from my collection. I’m fortunate to have a professional pesticide applicators licence, so have access to some products the general public does not. I believe the key to eliminating the root mealies was a product called Gazelle which co...

Pterocactus - care in first 6 months

Hi I’ve been having good germination results from ADLPS Pterocactus seed this year and am looking for top tips on post germination care. The first batch of seed germinated well in the heated and illuminated propagator, but losses post germination were higher than expected. I’ve seen tips to prick ou...

Re: Echinocereus Flowers

I thought from the spines that this might be E stramineus. But now it’s in flower, it is not the same colour as the example in John Pilbeam’s book. Could this just be a disappointingly pale flowered form, or is it something else?

Re: Copiapoa cinerea PM198

Well done, looking great. I flower most of my Copiapoas every year and have several blooming now, but the cinerea that I’ve had for well over 40 years has never flowered. It remains a solitary ball the size of a grapefruit. I used to live close to the Preston-Mafham collection and have several plant...

Re: Neoteny

Here are my two pots of the same name, these under the collection number ZJ651b. They were bought a few years ago from a Czech online seller. This form appears a little larger, but still happy in a small pot.

Re: The first of many

Great display coming. My plant has been cut down to ground level several times in its 40+ years in my care. It’s currently no more than 2” tall, but I expect 2’ and flowers within 4 years

Re: Oreocereus in flower today

This one has been flowering regularly for several years. Once it was 4’ high it started. The decapitation and rooting knocked it back, but I’m pleased it is back. Across two stems I think there are seven or eight buds.
