There are plenty of compact agaves, you can get miniature forms or just small plants. They look like normal agaves but only grow to a small size.

Yes, it looks like you have got it. I'm sure someone else might be able to help whith the exact variation!

Until the large leaves shrivel up they will provide all the water the plants need. When the big leaves shrivel and easily come of you can give them a little spritz every 3 days. When there large just pot them up as normal.

All this worked well when I tried it.
