Re: Which seeds have you ordered this year?

I've got seeds up in all pots bar two sown so far. Just waiting for hopefully some BCSS seeds and another small (ish) order from Koehres to arrive and get sown.

Re: Plastic-free propagation?

We're trying to cut our plastic use too but I have compromised by buying much more durable plant pots and trays so that I will be able to reuse them again and again. I have some seed trays that are over 20 years old. I find the packaging for things that I but much more problematic and I can't unders...

Re: Schlumbergera: repotted

I've just done mine too Mike. As it's in a warm room and I thought it had finished flowering I figured it was as good time as any.

Re: Question about seedling light levels

I'm rather dubious about the accuracy of the phone light meter too Terry. However the explanation I read about their accuracy on a photography website indicated they were surprisingly accurate as they use the technology built into the phone to get the right automatic exposure for their images. I'm s...

Re: Question about seedling light levels

So I just checked the lux reading when the sun was out and facing the phone camera straight up (so angled to the sun) I got reading from 2,700lux to 3,600lux. However when angled so it was straight at the direct sun I got a reading of 49,763lux! Needless to say I have put a sheet of baking parchment...

Re: January 2020 - Your most special plant

I'll start the ball rolling with three of mine that are currently my favourites (I can't pick one out of these three!) Rebutia einsteinii var tilcarensis J192a seedlings. These were my first seedlings to come through. IMG_20200103_092401.jpg My little Aloe polyphylla plant (I'm hoping to grow some m...

Re: My conservatory collection

Thanks Tina. The marlothii is a really nice little plant. My friend collected the seed from a plant being grown in Gran Canaria so we're not 100% on the ID but the parent plant had the typical spreading inflorescence of that species and the spikes are in the right place. It could be a horticultural ...
