Re: Pterocactus - Jewels of the Cono Sur [download]
Thank you very much for your kind comments. We very much hope that face-to-face meetings will be possible again soon - Coddington is probably too early this year. We have been thinking for a long time whether to offer the book as a printed work or as a pdf for download. It is difficult to estimate h...

Re: glad we are back
Thanks to all who have worked hard to get the website up and running again.
That must have been exhausting and nerve-wracking hours.

Re: Austrocacti
It's an old discussion between Herman Vertongen and myself. He says some are self-fertile and I say they can be partially stimulated by stimulus pollination. (I hope you can understand what I mean, in German we call it "Reizbestäubung".) I believe that without external stimulation, nothing...

Al, all perfect, it's normal. The plants are on the local mountain near Puerto Piramides - where the bathers walk with flip flops.

Re: Maihueniopsis ID
Hello, Mike,
like Tony, I'm would say it is maihueniopsis. For M. glomerata the thorns are a bit short - but that can change. Without a flower it is difficult to make a reliable statement.
With time and good care it will show what it is.

Re: Austrocacti
Nobby, what do you think my A. ferrari is? Your photo reminded me of an A. hibernus that I bought many years ago here in Germany - see photo. A_hibernus_Richter.JPG I have also added a photo of A. ferrarii from our collection. Austro_ferrarii.JPG It's true, Austrocacti react very fast and extremely...

Re: Austrocacti
Unfortunately, A. ferrarii belongs to the species that are not so easy to grow from seed. But if you already have seedlings - congratulations and good luck.

Re: Austrocacti
It is surprising - the A. ferrarii of Pavel looks like an A. hibernus....
