Re: Agave at altitude

They are Agave gentryi - one of the next pictures in the series shows it fairly clearly - another high altitude agave and certainly from Nueva Leon where these pics were taken. It is an amazing experience to see this - several times in Mexico I have been driving along a mountain road and climbed int...

Interesting new publication 'The Genus Nolina'

By Fritz Hochstätter, published in Italian and English. Well, interesting if you like nolinas as it is the only thing in print dedicated to them. Pic of front cover, courtesy of Keith's Plant Books: http://www.keithsplantbooks.co.uk/larger/Nolina.jpg My copy arrived this morning so I haven't had a c...

Re: Advice about mesh

I use something like these - which are from Homebase but I think most garden centres sell something similar.

Re: Viewing collections locally

I'd welcome visitors here to see what I am up to with the outdoor planting. I am trying to grow as diverse a range of C&S outside as I can get away with - I lean towards agave, yucca, nolina, dasylirion but pretty much anything else if it has cold tolerance. My garden is just over 1/3rd of an ac...

Re: ELK 2010

Also the canteen served the largest sized portion of spaghetti bolognese I have ever been dished up. My first time, I will go again. I think I was expecting there to be more nurseries. Not that it was disappointing in any way, just smaller than I imagined. My star purchase was a 15+yr old, 70cm diam...

Re: Agave in Bloom?

Yes, I have seen them do this a few times and have one flowering in the garden at the moment that is doing it.

Also saw once a bulbil producing agave that had flowered, the flower stem was covered in bulbils, and some of those small bulbils were flowering!

Re: Sinocrassula yunnanensis

I saw quite a lot of it for sale in a dutch nursery - cristate and regular in equal measures - so I imagine it does it a lot.

I was disappointed to have mine die last winter outside as it is supposed to be quite hardy. Try again.
