Re: Edgar Lamb and Mr Ghoghari of Ahmedabad

Crikey, Mike. I'd better put some chicken grit on mine and chuck a bucket of water over it - Limestone waterfalls! Apparently some were growing covered in mineral deposits from the water that flowed over them. The adventitious roots grew abundantly from every node. I have been adding a litt...

Re: Stapeliad thread 2020

I have a rather odd cross of this with Frerea indica. Yeeesss. That is another interesting uncertainty. According to the Stapeliads.info website, Jerry Barad visited the Marnier-Lapostolle gardens at Les Cèdres. He spoke with René Hebding, who was head gardener there for 40 years. "A similar h...

Re: Stapeliad thread 2020

Apteranthes2.JPG Apteranthes europaea subsp. europaea from Lampedusa about 125km (78 miles) off the coast of Tunisia, according to the seller. Seems credible. Apteranthes1.JPG Flowered this evening, as it thinks day is night. Only the one flower so far, more buds are hidden behind those petals. A s...

Re: Edgar Lamb and Mr Ghoghari of Ahmedabad

At Poona, not near Poona? It could be from Parvati Hill. Of course, there were many cultivated by the Western Circle of the Botanical Survey of India that was based in Pune/Poona, collected from various other places across Maharashtra over more than a century. So that raises the uncertainty, thank y...

Re: Edgar Lamb and Mr Ghoghari of Ahmedabad

Thanks Terry. I have done a bit of digging into Maurice Mason. He also provided Kew Gardens with their first living specimens in 1959. I think a lot of Central and Eastern European plants are from his stock, as well, via Marnier-Lapostolle's private botanical garden and German universities. His lack...

Hello all, from Manchester

Hello. My name is Pat and I am a researchoholic. I had to put away my research on Dragon trees for a year or two when I realised that I really wanted to finish my book on the ethnobotany of the asclepiads. Then I got distracted by putting together historical articles on Stephanotis floribunda , Hoya...

Edgar Lamb and Mr Ghoghari of Ahmedabad

I am writing an article on Frerea indica / Boucerosia frerei and I wondered if anyone can help with these two questions. Do you know anything of any Indian succulent plants supplied by Mr Ghoghari (or Mr Gogari) of Ahmedabad to Edgar Lamb, preferably with dates when they were given or any other info...
