Re: BCSS seeds

Yes, I have other seed but I want to do it all in one go, which makes me all the more impatient  I'm still 3 maybe 4 months away from sowing anything, do you really think you gain much from sowing early or is it just something to be getting on with at this time of year? I've never noticed muc...

phyllonemus wrote:Hello all, I have a question.
Somebody told me NOT tot use fertilizer (in growing season), for caudex
plants (in my situation Fockea, Boophone, Ficus abutifolia).
The reason for this was a streched growth.

Is is true about th fertilizer ?
No.

Hochstatter's 2007 Pediocactus, Navajoa, Toumeya book.

Anyone got this? Do you think that it's worth having?

Plant Labels

Anyone know of any wide white plastic labels available? 1"x 3" (2.5cm x 7.5cm) would be ideal. I obtained some 2cm wide from Hong Kong but they turned out to be grey not white.

Thanks

Re: Dioscorea Mexicana & elephantipes

I've grown D.elephantipes, D.sylvatica, D.paniculata and D.hemicrypta. They were all magnets for greenfly so I let them go with the exception of D. hemicrypta which the greenfly left alone and now lives in my front porch. They were all pretty cold tolerant and very easy from seed. Silverhill normall...

Re: Dormancy for seedlings

My first year cactus seedlings are left dry and cold (sometimes below freezing) from October to the following March. I don't lose many.

Re: Possible Scale? Advice required

Some Lophophoras are terribly attractive to and affected by RSM. The only way I know to deal with it is to keep the plant outdoors all Spring and Summer. I don't believe there is any sure fire way to eradicate RSM, it just keeps coming back.
