This plant popped up as a volunteer in some bulbs I have, and its a very robust plant. The most striking thing is that the long bracts on the flower spike make it look like an ear of wheat. Were you repotting Euphorbias? Just handling some Euphorbias then rubbing your eyes can cause intense eye irritation. Not quite what you are looking for, Tony, but I have plenty of Cyanotis somaliensis if that is of interest (it used to be classified as a tradescantia, with hairy leaves and blue flowers).
