My impression is that the flowering of mammillaria senilis strongly depends on the sun exposure during the winter and on the temperature range.
I enclose this year's graph of greenhouse temperatures (measurements every 30 minutes).

In early spring, even if the night is cold, it doesn't take long to bloom on sunny days. It is such a particular shape and such an intense color that it immediately draws the eye upon entering the greenhouse...
