Yes, I agree; two of the more popular low nitrogen feeds favoured by cacti/succulents' growers in the UK are:
Phostrogen which is NPK 14:10:27 plus trace elements and
Chempak No.8 which is NPK 12.5:25:25 plus trace elements.

Re: October 2011 Photo Competition - Euphorbia
Well done, Angie! There were some awesone plants here, but I look forward to this month's competition, as the October one passed me by as I had no suitable euphorbias to contribute!

Re: Cactus smugglers caught in Mexico
I give up trying to explain. Good, for from my experience having visited both the public and reserve collections at Kew on a regular basis over recent years, they have an extensive range of well grown cacti and succulents, the quality of which would put many of our collections to shame! And the sta...

Re: Oxford show Haworthia's
Thanks for sharing, Tina! Super plants, but then, Stirling is the Grand Master of Haworthias! (IMHO of course...) Hi Diane, Stirling was also dubbed the "Prince of Haworthias" at a recent talk he gave to Birmingham branch, see: http://bcssbirmingham.org.uk/?p=300 (Thanks to Forum member S...

Yes, Tina, I agree with you, and also with your last sentence in brackets, Ms. Chatterbox ; the Haworthias at the "Oxford Show" and last weekend's HawSoc Convention were magnificent.

Or number 1 is a M. laui or more-likely a M. laui X carmenae hybrid, like the many variants you see in most Dutch wholesale nurseries.

Re: Poor quality ID please
I'd agree with Phil and Stuart, yes now called Cylindropuntia X kelvinensis, a naturally-occurring hybrid between C. fulgida and C. spinosior from Arizona and, as Stuart says, widely available from the continental nurseries.

Re: Rare Event? Mammillaria plumosa
Yes indeed, Phil. In Hunt's classification, the "Schiedeana Group" within the "Lasiacanthae Series" consists of just M. carmenae, M, plumosa and M. schiedeana (+ the latter's subspecies dumetorum and giselae).
